Greek island hopping with Contiki was one of those trips where everything just ran seamlessly from the moment we arrived. It’s fast-paced, social, incredibly well organised, and the perfect way to experience multiple islands without having to worry about logistics like ferries, transfers or planning.
Mykonos: First Stop
After arriving in Athens and spending our first night, we boarded our first ferry and headed straight to Mykonos. The hotel here was a highlight in itself, set above Paradise Beach with an infinity pool overlooking the water. It was the perfect introduction to island life. We spent time exploring the narrow alleyways of Mykonos, designed to confuse the pirates, as well as visiting the famous windmills and wandering through Little Venice.
Paros: Laidback Island Charm
Paros had a completely different vibe — relaxed, authentic and beautifully low-key. One of the highlights here was in the traditional village of Lefkes. We visited a local family bakery, wandered through the village on a walking tour and learned more about local life on the island. From there, we headed to a local winery for wine and cheese tasting before finishing in Naoussa for sunset - easily one of the most beautiful moments of the trip. We also spent time out on the water on a traditional boat day, swimming in crystal-clear blue water, jumping off platforms and snorkelling along the coastline. It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.
Santorini: Postcard Perfect Views
Santorini is exactly as you imagine it and somehow still better in person. Watching the sunset from Fira was a real highlight, with incredible views over the caldera. We also explored Oia, with its iconic blue domes and cliffside views and spent time at the black sand beach, which was the perfect place to slow down, have a swim and enjoy some local food and drinks.
Ios: Beach Days & Island Life
Ios had such a fun contrast, known for its nightlife, but also full of calm beaches and laidback daytime energy. One of the highlights here was a speedboat experience where we swam through caves, stopped at hidden beaches and had lunch right on the water. It was one of those days that felt like pure holiday mode.
Athens: Ancient History & Final Moments
After the islands, we returned to Athens to finish the trip. Exploring the Acropolis was an incredible way to wrap up the journey, standing above the city and taking in centuries of history was unforgettable. We ended the experience with a Freddo cappuccino overlooking the Parthenon, which felt like the perfect final moment in Greece.
Final Thoughts
What really made this trip stand out was how easy everything felt. The organisation behind the itinerary meant we could just show up and enjoy each island without worrying about ferries, transfers or planning anything ourselves.
Our amazing guide, Caroline, made the experience seamless, the group dynamic was fun and social and each island brought something completely different! From party energy in Mykonos to laidback charm in Paros and postcard views in Santorini.
